This Privacy Policy explains how MyGearSafe ("MyGearSafe," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our mobile application and website (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

• Account information: when you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and password (stored in encrypted form).
• Profile information: any details you add to your profile, such as a display name, profile photo, bio, country, and similar information.
• Gear and collection data: information you enter about your instruments and equipment, including names, brands, models, serial numbers, purchase details, values, photos, and any notes you add.
• Photos and images: images you upload of your gear, including for our AI-assisted identification feature.
• Communications: information you provide when you contact us for support or feedback.

Information collected automatically

• Usage data: how you interact with the Service, such as features used, pages viewed, and actions taken.
• Device and technical data: device type, operating system, app version, and similar technical information.
• Advertising identifiers: if you use the free, ad-supported version of the Service, our advertising partner (Google AdMob) may collect device identifiers and related data to serve and measure ads. See Section 5 (Advertising) and Section 6 (Your Choices) below.

Information from third parties

• Payment and subscription data: when you purchase a subscription, our payment processors (Apple, Google, and/or Stripe via RevenueCat) provide us with transaction and subscription-status information. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• provide, operate, and maintain the Service, including cataloging your gear and calculating estimated values;
• power features you request, such as AI-assisted photo identification, market-value lookups, price trends, and offer advice;
• manage your account, subscription, and entitlements (for example, PRO access);
• enable social features such as profiles, walls, reactions, and friends;
• send you transactional emails (such as account, security, or subscription notices) via our email provider;
• serve and measure advertising in the free version of the Service;
• analyze usage to improve and develop the Service;
• detect, prevent, and address security issues, fraud, or abuse; and
• comply with legal obligations.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:

With other users (social features). If you make your profile or collection public, certain information — such as your username, profile details, gear, gear values, and PRO status — may be visible to other users. You control much of this through your privacy settings (for example, whether your profile or specific items are public or private).

With service providers. We share information with third parties that help us operate the Service, including:

• Base44 — our application platform and hosting/data infrastructure;
• Reverb — to retrieve market-value and listing data for your gear;
• AI/large-language-model providers — to power photo identification and offer-advice features (images and item details you submit for these features are processed by these providers);
• RevenueCat, Apple, Google, and Stripe — to process payments and manage subscriptions;
• Resend — to send transactional email;
• Google AdMob — to serve and measure advertising in the free version.

These providers may only use your information to perform services for us.

For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of MyGearSafe, our users, or others.

Business transfers. If MyGearSafe is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

4. AI-Assisted Features

Some features (such as Add-from-Photo identification and offer advice) send the photos and item details you provide to third-party AI/large-language-model services for processing. These features are used to generate identifications, valuations, and suggestions. Do not upload images or information you are not comfortable processing through these services.

5. Advertising

The free version of the Service displays ads provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may use device identifiers and usage data to serve and measure ads, including personalized advertising where permitted.

App Tracking Transparency (iOS). On Apple devices, we will request your permission before tracking your activity across other companies' apps and websites for advertising purposes, as required by Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework. You can grant or deny this permission, and change it at any time in your device settings.

Ad-free with PRO. Subscribing to PRO removes ads from the Service.

6. Your Choices and Rights

• Account information: you can review and update your profile and account information within the app.
• Privacy settings: you can control whether your profile and collection are public or private.
• Advertising: you can limit ad tracking through your device settings (for example, iOS App Tracking Transparency, or "Limit Ad Tracking" / resetting your advertising identifier).
• Marketing email: transactional emails are part of the Service; where we send non-essential email, you can opt out.
• Access and deletion: you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us at Hello@mygearsafe.com. You can also delete your account, which removes your collection and profile data, subject to information we must retain for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.

Depending on where you live (for example, California or the EU/UK), you may have additional rights, such as the right to access, correct, delete, or port your information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us at Hello@mygearsafe.com.

7. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, and afterward as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and enforce our agreements.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at Hello@mygearsafe.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

10. International Users

We are based in the United States, and your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. These countries may have data-protection laws different from those in your country.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a revised "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
